Some New Voices

Time to talk again about some programming issues on KXEL. Some of you have expressed concern about our use of Fox News, saying it’s not the same Fox News it used to be.

We’ve actually been watching this for some time, even before the last election. The technical quality of the product is not what it used to be, and the variety of material available to us has also decreased. We chalked a lot of it up to the pandemic and folks working from home. But it’s not recovering as we’d like. Then there’s the separate issue of the change in coverage tone that many of you object to.

I’ve talked to the folks at Fox and expressed our concerns. They assure us that everything is fine. You should be assured that we’ve been examining other options…in part because of what I’ve already talked about, and in part to help separate us from the many other stations that carry Fox News.

We’ve decided to stick with them for the near term, to see how things go…but we’re watching.

However, we will no longer be airing “Fox News Sunday”. Things are changing so fast these days, that by the time that program airs, it’s often outdated…so we’re making a change there.

And we’re also phasing out Fox Business broadcasts, in an effort to provide more different sources of information. You’ll be hearing less of them, and more of Bloomberg Radio business reports, very soon. No, the former presidential candidate does not have anything to do with it these days, and it is the best source for business news on the radio.

As always, we want to hear from you. Take our short programming survey at kxel.com, and as always, email me at jeff@kxel.com.
