AFTER MONTHS OF DISCUSSION BETWEEN COMMUNITY LEADERS AND CEDAR RAPIDS OFFICIALS, THE CITY WILL FORM A CITIZENS REVIEW BOARD FOR THE CEDAR RAPIDS POLICE DEPARTMENT. THE DECISION WAS APPROVED TUESDAY. THE NINE-MEMBER REVIEW BOARD IS INTENDED TO PROMOTE LAW ENFORCEMENT ACCOUNTABILITY AND EQUITY IN POLICING; IT WILL REVIEW COMPLAINTS AND BE REPRESENTED ON THE COMMITTEE THAT HIRES HIGH-RANKING DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL. CEDAR RAPIDS MAYOR BRAD HART SAID THE CITY WILL BEGIN A CAMPAIGN NEXT WEEK TO ENCOURAGE RESIDENTS TO APPLY.
