Panther Volleyball Drops Opening Three Matches; Play Friday at 5:45 p.m. on KXEL

SUNDAY

OMAHA, Nebraska – The UNI volleyball team fell 3-0 to the #15 Creighton on the road Sunday afternoon, falling with set scores of 15-25, 22-15, 17-25.

1st Set: Creighton took the lead early and maintained the led throughout the set. The Bluejays moved out to a 5-point lead at 18-13 and never looked back, taking the set 25-15. UNI finished with 7 kills and 1 service ace while recording a -.080 hitting percentage. The set saw 2 ties and 1 lead change.

2nd Set: The Panthers continued to struggle against the #15 Bluejays in the second set, trailing 8-4 early.The Panthers trail 15-9 at the mid set media timeout. UNI closed the gap to a single point at 20-19 and again at 23-23 but could not hold off the Bluejays, falling 25-22. Uni finished with 11 kills on 31 attacks for a .161 hitting percentage. The Panthers added 3 blocks.

3rd Set: The Panthers trailed the Bluejays 6-2 early in the final set. The Bluejays moved out to a 7-point lead at 16-9 and pushed their way to a final set 25- 17 victory. UNI finished the set with 10 kills and 1 ace.

THE PANTHERS:
-UNI finished with 28 kills on 83 attacks and 22 attack errors for a .072 hitting percentage.
-The Panthers recorded 28 assists and 27 digs.
Emily Holterhaus had 21 total attacks with 9 kills for a team leading .286 hitting percentage.
-Freshman Yagmur Cinel finished with 7 kills.
Tayler Alden finished with 22 assists and 5 digs.

THE BLUEJAYS:
-The Jays finished with 38 kills on 80 attacks with 12 errors for a .325 hitting percentage.
-Creighton recorded 34 assists and 29 digs and 5 blocks.
-Jaela Zimmerman finished with 12 kills while Keeley Davis recorded 11.
-Keeley Davis finished with a team high .474 hitting percentage.

UP NEXT:
The Panthers will return to the McLeod Center on Friday when they get their rematch with in-state rival Drake. The match is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. with pregame coverage with Chris Kleinhans Schulz at 5:45 p.m. only on the Home of the Panthers, News/Talk 1540 KXEL.

 

SATURDAY

OMAHA- Nebraska – The UNI volleyball team traveled to Omaha Nebraska on Saturday afternoon for their second match in two days, falling to the Mavericks of Omaha 3-1 with set scores of 25-18, 21-25, 16-25, 23-25.
1st Set: An equally match opening set, the Panthers led early and had a 15-12 lead midway through the set. Emily Holterhaus split a block for a kill to put the Panthers up 18-14, the largest lead of the set at that point. The Panthers finished strong to end with a 25-18 set victory. UNI finished with 11 kills on 32 attack attempts and added 6 blocks.
2nd Set: The Panthers tied the set at 4-4 but would not see a lead until a Carly Spies kill put the Panthers on top 14-13. The Mavs moved ahead 21-17 late in the set and maintained the lead to win the set 25-21. The Panthers finished with 10 kills, 2 aces and 1 block. 
3rd Set: The Panthers trailed early in the third set and were unable to rally. The Mavs moved ahead by 9 leading 19-10 midway through the set and coasted to a 25-16 set victory. The Panthers finished with 10 kills, 1 block and 1 ace.
4th Set: The Panthers took their first lead of the set at 4-3. Keeping the set close, UNI stayed within two points of the Mavs until tying the set at 15-15 and again at 20-20. The Mavs made the final push to end the set and the mat with a 25-23 victory. The Panthers finished with 12 kills and 2 aces.
 
THE PANTHERS:
–       UNI recorded 43 kills on 136 attacks to record a .140 hitting percentage.
–       Emily Holterhaus recorded a team high 13 kills.
–       Baylee Petersen finished with a team high 16 digs followed by Emily Holterhaus (14) and Sarah Konovodoff (10).
–       Carly Spies and Kaylissa Arndorfer finished with 4 block assists. 
THE MAVERICKS:
–       The Mavericks finished with 47 kills on 144 attacks to record a .146 hitting percentage.
–       Sadie Limback recorded a team high 15 kills followed by McKenna Ruch (14).
–       Sami Clarkson recorded 39 assists.

 

FRIDAY

DES MOINES, Iowa – The UNI volleyball team opened its 2021 season at Drake, falling to the MVC rival 3-1 with set scores of 26-24, 25-20, 25-15, 25-19.

1st Set: The Panthers went out to an early 9-4 lead but the Bulldogs rallied back late to take a 18-14 lead forcing a UNI timeout. The Panthers went on their own run to tie the set at 21-21 and pushed the Bulldogs into extra points but fell 26-24. The Panthers recorded 13 kills on 49 attacks with 2 aces and 2 blocks.

2nd Set: The Panthers and Bulldogs traded leads throughout the set. The Bulldogs led 15-13 midway through the second set, at that point the set had seen 8 lead changes. The Panthers rallied to lead the Bulldogs 19-17 late and would hold off the Bulldogs for a 25-20 set victory. The Panthers finished with 15 kills, 3 aces and 2 blocks.

3rd Set: The Bulldogs got out to an early lead, going up 12-6 on the Panthers. UNI rallied back to get within 2 after a Yagmur Cinel kill. The Bulldogs pulled away midway through he set and ran way with a 25-15 set victory. The Panthers finished with 7 kills, 1 ace and 1 block.

4th Set: UNI scores the first 3 points of the set. The Panthers went up 7-5 following a Kaylissa Arndorfer tip for a point, pushing Drake to call timeout and regroup. The Bulldogs rallied and took the 4th set 25-19. The Panthers finished with 11 kills and 2 aces.

THE PANTHERS

  • UNI finished with 46 kills on 163 total attacks for a .110 hitting parentage.
  • UNI totaled 71 digs and 44 assists with 7 solo blocks and 2 block assists.
  • Emily Holterhaus recorded a team high 12 kills and 14 digs.
  • Freshman setter Tayler Alden finished with 26 assists, 11 digs, 9 kills and 1 block assists.

THE BULLDOGS

  • Drake finished with 52 kills on 165 total attacks for a .206 hitting percentage.
  • Only 5 Bulldogs recorded a kill, led by Emily Plock with 19 kills and a .326 hitting percentage.
  • Caitlyn Smith finished with 44 assists and 22 digs.
