Flying the Flag

Tuesday is Donald Trump’s final full day in office as President of the United States…efforts by Democrats and Never Trumper Republicans to speed that up a bit notwithstanding.

If you are one of those who is sad to see the Trump Administration come to a close, you’re no doubt unhappy and discouraged. You’re concerned about what might happen to our country, and to each of us.

There’s no great answer about what we can do…either individually or collectively.

But here’s a thought about something we can do in tribute to the past four years, and the resilience of our nation to overcome attempts to destroy that which has made us great for more than two centuries.

How about we all fly the flag on Tuesday…not just flying it on a pole outside, although that’s at a minimum. But how about pulling out those shirts, ties, and outfits we have for Independence Day or Flag Day…and trot them all out as big as possible on Tuesday.

Let’s not limit it to that…how about social media posts with flags and banners and patriotism? Not Trump stuff, although I’m fine with it…but America stuff.

We’ll change our station logo on social media to the version that has the flag in it. We’ll find all the pictures we can of Old Glory flying proudly and post those too, so long as Twitter doesn’t shut us down for doing it. Maybe we’ll use the hashtag “America”…and dare the social media masters to delete posts tagged “America”…we’ll know what it means. You do the same, and tag @kxel1540 in them.

Because one of the lasting legacies of the Make America Great Again movement is that America is great, and will still be great again if we keep the faith. So let’s use the American flag as our symbol of thanks…and of hope…next Tuesday.
