Panthers roll South Dakota State 28-13

The Panthers opened the day with a match against South Dakota State. At 125, Brody Teske appeared to be in trouble early when he fell behind to Daniel Vega 8-2, but Teske battled back to take a 10-9 lead before the end of the period. He held on to win 13-11 to put the Panthers up 3-0.

Kyle Biscoglia picked up the biggest upset of the day. Coming in unranked, he faced No. 13 Zach Price. Price led early, but Biscoglia earned a 5-4 lead with a takedown with just over a minute. He quickly turned his advantage into the first pin of the day to give UNI the 9-0 dual lead.

Clay Carlson topped Drew Bennett at 141, but the Panthers rebounded with a pin by Triston Lara at 149. Lara trailed his Hunter Marko 6-4 with just over a minute to wrestle, but got him in a headlock and threw him straight onto his back and earned the pinfall. UNI led 15-3 after four bouts.

Cayd Lara fell to his opponent at 157, but again the Panthers responded with a pinfall. Patrick Schoenfelder dominated his bout from the opening whistle, but late in the third, he caught his opponent with a single-leg and flipped him to his back for the pin to put UNI up 21-6.

Lance Runyon opened his varsity career with a 4-0 shutout at 174 and Keegan Moore won his bout 18-7 to put UNI up 28-6.

Tyrell Gordon fell in 14-1 to his opponent at 197 and John McConkey dropped his bout at 285 12-6, but it was not enough for the Jackrabbits to overcome the deficit and UNI won 28-13.
