Blame It On The Masks

Iowa and South Dakota share something…neither state has a mandatory mask rule, apparently the only states without one. Good for us, and good for them.

At some point, personal responsibility needs to take over. Blaming someone else to avoid that responsibility isn’t going to cut it.

Lots of public places require you wear a mask, or else don’t come in. They’re taking responsibility, just as I can exert mine by not going in if I don’t like the rules.

Schools can set their own rules, and parents can opt to have their children taught virtually if they’re not comfortable with the rules.

I don’t like the tone some folks took in cancelling outdoor festivals this summer…the news releases blamed the governor’s proclamation limiting the size of events and requiring social distancing as the reason for cancelling the fun. The suggestion, of course, is that absent that proclamation, the show would have gone on…but it wouldn’t, this just gives the event organizer a convenient scapegoat. “Don’t blame us for cancelling the fun, it’s the governor’s fault.”

Is that why they want a mask rule, too? “Don’t blame us for requiring masks, it’s the governor’s fault.” That’s silly.

A friend tweeted a photo of a sign at his Hy-Vee, saying to “mask it up to shut covid down”…there’s not such a sign at my store, which is good, because that’s a lot of pressure when I just want a pound of ground beef and a dozen eggs.

Mask up, or don’t mask up…but don’t blame a government official.
