Kam Finley scored a career-high 28 points to lead the UNI Panther women’s basketball team to a 91-78 win against the Drake Bulldogs Friday at the McLeod Center during the regular season finale for both teams.
It was the first UNI victory against the Bulldogs since March 2016. The 2019/20 season is the first time UNI’s women’s basketball program has defeated Iowa, Iowa State, and Drake during the same schedule. The Panthers record against in-state opponents is 3-1 this winter.
Finley got off to a hot start, helping UNI build a 7-0 lead, and ultimately scoring the Panthers’ first ten points.
UNI was ahead by three after one quarter and had extended the lead to 44-35 at halftime, behind 18 points from Finley. Karli Rucker added 11 before the break.
During the second half, the Panthers’ lead was never less than six. UNI shot nearly 48 percent from the field and had an edge in rebounds while also forcing 20 Bulldog turnovers.
Finley beat her previous career high of 20 points on three-point basket with 6:42 left in the game.
The win gives UNI an 18-11 overall mark with a 10-8 finish in the MVC.
The Panthers will be the fifth seed in the Valley Tournament, and will meet Illinois State next Friday.
