Shots just wouldn’t fall for the UNI men’s basketball team Friday during a 77-56 loss to the Drake Bulldogs, which eliminated the Panthers from the Missouri Valley Conference tournament during the quarterfinal round.
UNI trailed early in the first half and fell behind by as many as 17 points. Battling back, the Panthers drew to within ten by intermission, despite shooting just 35.5 percent from the floor. However, their accuracy in the second half was a more woeful 27 percent, leaving the team at 30.9 for the night.
Nonetheless, UNI clawed within two points on three separate occasions in the second half but were unable to even the game. Starting in the middle stages of the second half, the Bulldogs went on an 18-point run to soundly put the game out of reach.
A.J. Green finished with 19 points and three assists for UNI. Isaiah Brown was the only other Panther in double figures with 11.
The Panthers now must either earn an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament or accept an invitation into the National Invitational Tournament. The situation will be resolved on Sunday by the NCAA Tournament Selection Show.
