The defense has begun its case in the murder trial of Jerry Burns in Scott County court.
Burns, who’s 66 and lives in Manchester, is accused of killing 18-year old Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School Senior Michelle Martinko in 1979, in the Westdale Mall parking lot.
The trial is in its second week and several witnesses have given hours of testimony so far.
The defense yesterday(Wed) asked Judge Fae Hoover to rule for acquittal, saying the state failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Burns is guilty. The judge declined to do so.
The prosecution wrapped up its case yesterday(Weds).
