The UNI Panther men’s basketball team pulled ahead early on Saturday and never let up during an 80-57 road win against the Missouri State Bears.
Before the game was nine minutes old, UNI had earned a 20-point lead. It was a solid shooting first half, as the Panthers made 19 of their 32 attempts, including eight three-pointers.
For the day, UNI shot 53.6 percent overall and a red-hot 59.1 percent from beyond the arc.
AJ Green led all scorers with 28 points. Isaiah Brown (19) and Trae Berhow (12) were also in double-figures. Brown just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Austin Phyfe was the leader on the glass with ten, and as a team, the Panthers outrebounded the Bears 38-29.
Solid shooting and rebounding allowed UNI to claim the comfortable victory even though Missouri State made a minimal number of miscues; the Bears committed just five turnovers.
The Panthers are now 14-2 overall and 3-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference. UNI returns to the McLead Center to meet the Valparaiso Crusaders on Wednesday.
