The UNI Panther volleyball team is getting a second life and a second chance at the Missouri Tigers.
On Saturday night, the Panthers were denied the Missouri Valley Conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA tournament field. Illinois State swept UNI for the MVC Tournament Championship.
But Sunday, the Panthers were given an at-large invitation into the NCAA field of 64. UNI will prepare for a trip to Lincoln, Nebraska, Friday. That preparation includes breaking out the game tape of a September match against Missouri.
The Tigers are UNI’s first round opponent. UNI fell to Missouri in four sets 25-22, 22-25, 25-17, 25-14 on September 13th when the Tigers hosted a tournament in Columbia.
This will be the second time UNI and Missouri have met in the NCAA tournament; back in 2010, the Tigers came away with a win.
Friday’s first serve is scheduled for 4:30; the winner will face either Nebraska or Ball State.
