A three-pointer by Trae Berhow with just over seven minutes remaining put the UNI Panther men’s basketball team ahead for good Wednesday during a 78-72 win over South Carolina in Mexico during the final game for both teams at the Cancun Challenge.
After Berhow’s go-ahead score, A.J. Green recorded 11 of the Panthers’ final 13 points to help secure the victory. Green ended the night with a game-high 26 points, and Berhow contributed 15. Antwan Kimmons was also in double-figures with ten.
Although the Gamecocks made five more field goals and hit 50 percent of their attempts (30 of 60), UNI was sharper at the foul line and got there more often. The Panthers were 20-for-24 from the stripe, while South Carolina converted just five of 11 tries.
UNI returns from the Thanksgiving week trip with a 1-1 record and a 7-1 mark overall. Monday, the Panthers’ next game pits them against Luther College at the McLeod Center.
