It’s not uncommon for distant observers muddle the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) and Northern Illinois University (NIU), but Saturday, it was clear which school had the better men’s basketball program.
UNI’s Panthers topped the NIU Huskies 64-54 in DeKalb.
UNI took the lead in the opening minutes and never looked back, pulling ahead by 16 at halftime.
Isaiah Brown had 11 points in the opening half and finished with 17 in 31 minutes. Brown was 6-for-8 from the field, including five makes from the three-point arc.
A.J. Green and Tywhon Pickford added nine points apiece.
Now 2-0, the Panthers return to action on Wednesday, at the McLeod Center, hosting the Roadrunners of CSU Bakersfield.
