The UNI Panther women pushed their conference road record to 5-1 with wins during a trip to Chicago and northwest Indiana over the weekend.
Five UNI players scored in double figures Friday, and the Panthers held off a late Loyola rally for a 71-65 win over the Ramblers.
Karli Rucker recorded her third double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. She also added five assists. Mikaela Morgan scored a team-high 14 points, Cynthia Wolf added 13, Taylor Hagen poured in 11 and Nicole Kroeger scored 10.
The Panthers built a 63-44 lead with 7:27 to play but didn’t hit a field goal for the remainder of the game. Loyola chipped away and cut the lead to six in the final seconds, but there wasn’t enough time to get closer.
UNI made more than 46 percent of their field goal tries. The Panthers outrebounded the Ramblers 37-30.
Sunday, a double-double by Bre Gunnels led UNI to a 64-56 result over Valparaiso.
The Panthers led 23-21 in a low-scoring opening half. During the third and fourth quarters, UNI hit 48.1 percent of shots from the field and pulled away for the eight-point win.
Karli Rucker scored 10 of her 14 points after the break. Gunnels scored 11, one short of her career high to go with a game-high 10 rebounds.
UNI is now 15-8 and 8-3 in MVC play. The Panthers continue a long road swing with a game at Drake Friday. UNI will then play four of their final six regular-season games at home.
