UPDATE: Atalissa Area Shooting Suspect Named by Police

Authorities have named the man involved in a shooting at a truck stop along I-80 on Thursday.

60-year-old Charles Johnston is charged with attempted murder and assault on a peace officer with a dangerous weapon.

Iowa State Troopers were called around 2:20 yesterday afternoon to shots fired on eastbound I-80 near the 265 mile marker. Johnston then allegedly exited the highway and fired more shots at drivers at the BP gas station. Troopers then encountered Johnston on County Rd X46 where they exchanged gunfire with him. He was taken into custody after a brief standoff.

No one was injured in any of the shootings.

Johnston is being held in the Cedar County Jail.
