High-speed pursuit of motorcycle ends in crash

Charges are pending against a motorcycle driver in a high-speed pursuit that ended with a crash in Bremer County Friday morning.

At 10:47 a.m., a Bremer County Sheriff's Deputy tried to stop a motorcycle for speeding on Highway 3 at Timber Avenue east of Readlyn.  The motorcycle was clocked at 82 miles per hour in a 55 zone.  The driver refused to stop and accelerated to speeds in excess of 130 m.p.h.

The pursuit went north on County Road V-56, then west on C-33.  The Tripoli Police Department responded to assist.  The motorcycle continued on until it ran into the Tripoli squad car near the intersection of C-33 and Sable Avenue, which is southeast of Tripoli.

The driver of the motorcycle was injured but the injuries did not appear to be life threatening.  The driver’s name is not being released at this time pending investigation.  No one else was injured.

Due to the other agencies being involved in this pursuit, the Iowa State Patrol will be investigating the collision.  Charges are expected as the investigation proceeds.
