Marion man gets 13 years for drugs, guns charge

A Marion man has been sentenced to nearly 13 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to using drugs while in possession of guns and ammunition.

Officials say 33-year-old Clint Hughes was sentenced Monday.  He pleaded guilty in March to the August 2013 charges.

Hughes possessed more than 20 firearms, including six assault rifles.  He also had thousands of rounds of ammunition and high-capacity magazines.

Police say Hughes had used marijuana when his weapons were seized.

Judge Linda Reade says Hughes has a 20-year history of substance abuse and has violated pretrial supervision by testing positive for marijuana.  She says she was concerned that Hughes told police he was a survivalist and had a hidden cache of guns.
