Linn Co. sexual abuse suspect arrested in Arkansas

A Springville man suspected of having sex with an underage girl was captured Thursday morning in Arkansas.

U.S. Marshals from the Little Rock office captured 24-year-old Christopher Stephens in Kensett, Arkansas.  The U.S. Marshals Northern Iowa Fugitive Task Force worked with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office and learned Stephens had possibly fled the state to avoid prosecution.

In April, Linn County Sheriff’s Office investigators learned about the alleged sexual abuse involving Stephens and a teenage girl.  A three-month long investigation showed that the abuse had occurred between March and April.

As the investigation was concluding, Stephens changed his phone number and moved from his residence.  At that time, a warrant was issued for his arrest for third-degree sexual abuse.

Marshals say Stephens was staying at his mother’s residence in Kensett.  He was arrested without incident, taken to the Searcy County Jail in Arkansas and is awaiting extradition to Linn County to face charges.
