Palo teen arrested after carjacking, chase

A man is in custody after he led authorities on a high-speed chase on Interstate 380 early Tuesday.

The investigation actually began at around 1:00 a.m. when Cedar Rapids police talked with a woman who said she was assaulted and had her vehicle stolen near St. Luke’s Hospital.  A short time later, that vehicle was spotted on Interstate 380 north of Center Point and a chase began.

When Linn County deputies tried to pull over the driver, he accelerated to speeds up to 110 miles per hour.  Deputies were able to use stop sticks at the 62 mile marker to help stop the chase and the man stopped the vehicle a mile-and-a-half later on northbound I-380.

Deputies say the driver, 17-year-old Nicholas Scott of Palo, did not resist arrest.  Scott is charged with second-degree robbery, felony eluding and several minor traffic citations.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into this carjacking and chase.  They were assisted by Cedar Rapids police, Black Hawk County Sheriff’s deputies, and the Evansdale Police Department.
