Clear Lake struggling to find spot for memorial

Clear Lake officials may form a task force after having difficulty deciding where to locate a proposed veterans memorial.

Clear Lake Parks and Recreation Director Randy Miller told the City Council on Monday night that the parks and recreation advisory board thinks the council should form a task force.

That recommendation follows a dispute about whether to locate the proposed memorial at the Clear Lake Sea Wall, as veterans groups have suggested, or to find a different spot.

The memorial will include three 5-foot-high tribute walls inscribed with the names of veterans from Clear Lake and Ventura.

The parks board voted against placing the memorial along the Sea Wall after members contended the spot was too busy.

The council will consider the matter Aug. 4.
