Outagamie Co. refunding marriage license fee

Same-sex couples who applied for a marriage license in Outagamie County last week, have two options, since a judge put the weddings on hold.

County Executive Tom Nelson says they can get a refund, of the $100 application fee. He says they could also ask the county to keep the application on file, in case gay marriages are allowed in the future.

The county clerk's office offered to refund $55 of the cost. That's the portion that goes to the state. County Executive Tom Nelson announced this afternoon, that his office will provide the rest.

County Clerk Lori O'Bright says her office needs the remaining $45, to cover employee costs.
