Man dies of injuries from crash near Springville

A Cedar Rapids man has died from injuries he suffered in a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Springville Fire Department, Iowa Department of Public Safety and Anamosa Ambulance responded to an injury accident at 4:03 p.m. Friday on Highway 151 south of Wendling Lane near Springville.  Deputies discovered a van driven by 44-year-old Todd Meeks of Cedar Rapids had been southbound on Highway 151 and hit a 1999 Mack Truck pulling a side dump trailer driven by 53-year-old Darryl Whitman of Cedar Rapids.  Whitman also was southbound and was struck from behind by Meeks.

Meeks was transported to Mercy Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.  Meeks died Monday morning.  Authorities do not yet know whether Meeks died due to injuries suffered in the collision or because of an ongoing medical condition.  Whitman was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Linn County sheriff’s and medical examiner’s offices.
