Gardner, Marquette edge Georgetown

The Marquette Golden Eagles held off the Georgetown Hoyas in the final minute to win 75-73 on Thursday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.  With ten seconds remaining, Georgetown's D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera failed to send the game into overtime with his missed jumper as time expired.  Davante Gardner came off the bench and led Marquette with 26 points, including 11 straight points in the final seven minutes to help secure the win.  Also Marquette's Jake Thomas added a career-high 22 points.  Markel Starks and Smith-Rivera led the way for Georgetown with 24 and 19 points respectively.  Marquette has now won five of their last six games, and have moved into a second-place tie with Xavier in the Big East standings.

Marquette will next hit the road to face the #8 Villanova Wildcats on Sunday.
