Group sends reminder on school accountability

Some state lawmakers are trying to create a new school accountability system, and a group is reminding them about a two-year-old agreement.

John Ashley is the executive director of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards. He says Governor Walker and a number of stakeholders believed that voucher and charter schools should be held to the same standard as public schools.

Ashley says they also created a grading system that was based on whether a school is meeting expectations. He says they agreed not to set up an A-to-F system.

A bill that would have made that change, was withdrawn earlier this week because of a lack of support. It also would have forced poor-performing public schools to close, and possibly re-open, as privately run charter schools.
