Salvation Army tops fundraising goal

A local non-profit was able to exceed its fundraising goal this year.

The Salvation Army Fox Cities was about $180,000 short of its $1.2 million goal at the end of last year, and leaders extended the campaign into this month. Now, they're reporting that they brought in nearly $1.3 million.

Spokesman Robb Waugus says it was a very challenging year, because of the cold weather. He says they had five fewer days for the Red Kettle campaign, because of a late Thanksgiving.

Waugus says the nine Red Kettle match days brought in over $600,000, and that accounts for 54 percent of their goal. He says they also received money through direct mail donations, and contributions from businesses and foundations.

Waugus says a number of other Salvation Army chapters in the state weren't able to meet their goal.
