State considering deer registration change

The state's natural resources board is talking about a proposal today, to end the traditional deer registration process.

The state's deer trustee wants to get rid of in-person registration, and move to an online or call-in system.

Debbie Freischmidt works at the Colwitz BP in Shiocton, and she says the opening weekend of gun hunting season is their busiest weekend of the year, because of in-person registration.

She understands the reasons for the proposal, but she thinks hunters would miss getting together in the parking lot, to show off their deer.

Officials say online and phone registration would save the state money and lead to faster totals.
