Leo Frigo bridge reopening Sunday

The Leo Frigo bridge is opening, sooner than expected.

Governor Walker stopped by the DOT's Ashwaubenon office this morning to announce that the bridge will open by 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

That's nearly two weeks ahead of schedule. The original reopening date was January 17th.

DOT Secretary Mark Gotlieb says crews worked very hard to get the bridge open ahead of schedule, only taking Christmas Eve and Christmas day off. The contractor, Zenith Tech, will get a $750,000 bonus for finishing early.

Governor Walker says it was important to get the bridge open as soon as possible because it has a daily economic impact of $130,000.

The bridge closed September 25, after pilings beneath a support pier buckled, causing part of the bridge to sag. Crews lifted that portion back in place, and reinforced several piers.
