Relay for Life is a Cedar Valley tradition where cancer survivors and their families and friends gather on one night to walk and raise awareness of all cancers and money to fund research to find cures. The caregiver of a Cedar Valley 4-year cancer survivor, Rhonda Roberts, tells her story and the upcoming Survivors Event on June 20th.

The Cedar Trails Association does work to improve the amazing bike and walking trails--105 miles plus--around the Cedar Valley. Their funds are raised through membership dues and fund raising events. They distribute money to area organizations--including cities--that propose to make significant improvements to the trails experience. Bob Manning explains the current grant awards and upcoming events this spring.

The Advanced European History Class at Waterloo Columbus takes a trip to the historic battlefields of World Wars I and II each year to see the actual spots where the history was made. This year's class was part of the last group to have permission to salute individuals or groups on the beaches where the battles took place. They documented their trip and will be doing a public presentation of video and personal narratives of the experience. This is Part 1 of the Columbus Kids.

The Beyond Pink Team in the Cedar Valley is hosting another Cancer Survivors meeting on 4/15. Guest speaker is Dr. Richard Deming, the Medical Director of the Mercy Medical Center Cancer Center in Des Moines. He is also the founder of Above & Beyond Cancer; a foundation that sends some of his cancer survivors and their caregivers on extraordinary journeys with Dr. Deming to the top of Mt. Everest, Mt Kilaminjaro and more adventures. He discusses this mission with eloquence and joy!

The ITEC Student Tech Fair is held annually in three locations in Iowa--Sioux City, Ames and Cedar Falls. The Fair is a judged competition of high school students projects that inolve technology and science. The Waterloo Black Hawks won the USHL regular season championship with a dramatic 9-round shoot-out against arch-rival Cedar Rapids Roughriders. The Black Hawks brought the Anderson Cup to the show and talked about the season, the US Olympic Hockey experience and the coming Clarke Cup Playoffs. Two of the Hawks discuss it all with Gary--Goalie, Cameron Johnson (who was in the crease to block all 9 of those shootout shots!) and defenseman Alec McCrea.

Kandie Vaugn lost her son, Travis Vaughn, in a helicopter clash in Afghanistan seven years ago. In his memory, and to honor him, each year Kandie asks the Cedar Valley to donate gifts of personal hygiene products for the men and women at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown.
