CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI Football fell to Missouri State 13-6 Saturday evening in the UNI-Dome.

The Panthers held Missouri State to just 14 first downs and 236 yards of offense, but UNI starting quarterback Will McElvain was out because of COVID-19 protocols and the Panther offense struggled to find a rhythm under redshirt freshman Justin Fomby.

UNI learned Friday that McElvain would not be able to play leaving just 24 hours to prepare to start Fomby under center.

The UNI defense was again stellar. The Panthers forced 12 tackles for loss, led by Jared Brinkman who tallied a career-high 4.5 TFLs, including a sack. Caden Houghtelling had 3.5 tackles for loss. Benny Sapp III tallied the first interception of his UNI career.

Fomby was 18-29 for 215 yards and an interception. Logan Wolf tallied three catches for 52 yards, Quan Hampton notched six grabs for 31 yards.
Matthew Cook hit field goals of 27 and 43 yards to score UNI’s only points. He now has 30 career field goals and is tied for 10th on the all-time field goal made list with Scott Obermeier (1992-93).  He is now 11-15 on the year.

The Panthers fall to 2-3 on the season while Missouri State is now 3-4 on the year and 3-1 in Valley Football play.
