Rose Simon-Ressler led a balanced and deep UNI offensive effort during the Panther women’s basketball team’s 78-53 Sunday win over the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats Sunday at the McLeod Center.
The result extended UNI’s season-opening win streak to five consecutive games.
Simon-Ressler (14 points) and Kristina Cavey (12 points) were the only Panthers in double-figures, but it was a game in which 11 UNI players had at least one basket.
UNI was doubling-up the Bearcats 24-12 after the first quarter, and the visitors would be no closer than six the rest of the way.
Rebounding was key to the win: UNI had a 41-29 advantage on the glass, including 14-5 at the offensive end. Those numbers helped the Panthers attempt a dozen more shots than the Bearcats. UNI also forced the visitors into 23 turnovers.
The Panthers’ next game is in Las Vegas during the South Point Shootout against Alabama on Friday.
