A UNI Panther player has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week for three consecutive weeks.
The honor came back around to defensive end Elerson Smith for a second time after UNI’s 21-14 win versus Youngstown State on Saturday. Smith had two-and-a-half sacks and now has seven-and-a-half this season.
He was also named the Defensive Player of the Week by the conference two weeks ago.
UNI had six total sacks against the Penguins, limiting Youngstown State to 55 net rushing yards.
The Panthers are now 3-2 going into Saturday’s road game against the top team in FCS football: the Bison of North Dakota State.
