Will McElvain completed 17 passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns during a 34-14 win over Southern Utah Saturday at the UNI-Dome.
The result was head coach Mark Farley’s 150th career win, making him the 10th coach ever with 150 FCS wins.
McElvain found Deion McShane for a 56-yard touchdown to open the scoring late in the first quarter. Isaiah Weston caught McElvain’s next scoring pass, breaking a tackle to cross the goal line with 12:02 to play in the second quarter.
A field goal, and McElvain’s third touchdown pass of the game – connecting with Jaylin James with two-and-a-half minutes remaining in the half – made the score 24-0 at the break.
UNI extended the lead to 34-0 in the second half before the Thunderbirds found a way to break through.
McShane ended the game with 110 yards on eight receptions. Weston joined McShane over 100 yards (105) on five catches.
The Panther defense held SUU to just 227 yards and recorded three sacks.
UNI has a week off before another home game on September 21st against Idaho State.
