Former Mason City Man Gets Five Years for Extortion Involving UNI Co-ed

A 19-year-old man has been given five years in prison for trying to coerce a University of Northern Iowa co-ed into having sex with him.

Black Hawk County District Court records say Christian Gossweiler was sentenced yesterday(Mon) in Waterloo on one count of extortion.

Gossweiler targeted the woman in the summer of 2018 after spotting her on a social media page for incoming UNI freshmen. Gossweiler used a fake name on a social media platform when he told her he had nude photos of her and threatened to release them to her family and friends if she didn’t send him more photos and videos. Later he began to demand sex with her.

He was sentenced to two years of probation after pleading guilty to a similar scheme that targeted an Iowa State University student.
