BHCo Supervisors Turn Thumbs Down on Shooting Range Expansion

The Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors said “no,” this(Tues) morning to Sheriff Tony Thompson’s proposal to buy 22 more acres of property adjacent to the Raymond shooting range for an expansion of the facility.

Board Chairman Tom Little says supervisors listened to 10 to 12 neighbors’ concerns about additional noise in the former rock quarry area, then voted 3 to 2 against the $150,000 purchase.

Little, Craig White and Chris Schwartz voted against the plan, while Dan Trelka and Linda Laylin were in favor of the purchase.

On another front, Little says former Waverly banker James Perry will start his new job as the county’s Finance Director next Monday.
