Waterloo Council to Take Up “Ban the Box” Ordinance Tonight

The Waterloo City Council will be asked to vote on the so-called “ban the box,” ordinance tonight(Mon).  If approved, it would prevent private employers from asking job applicants about any criminal history they may have.   (Waterloo Human Rights Commission Executive Director Abraham Funchess has been promoting the ordinance and says it’s been discussed in the Cedar Valley for at least 10 years.  

Tonight’s(Mon) regular meeting begins at 5:30, but will be preceded at 4:10 by further discussion of the City’s recycling and refuse program, followed by another review of some changes in Title-One of the City Code, which governs council procedures and behavior.
