The UNI Panther women’s basketball team is bound for the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT). Northern Iowa will meet Minnesota in Minneapolis during the first round of the tournament Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Williams Arena.

The Panthers go into the game with a 20-12 record while the Gophers are 20-10. Minnesota is 10-0 all-time against UNI.
Karli Rucker is the Panthers’ leading scorer at 14.7 per contest. Bre Gunnels leads UNI in the rebounding category at 4.8 per game.
Kenisha Bell tops the Gophers with 18.8 points per game.
The Gophers won their first 12 games before going 8-10 the rest of the way. Minnesota lost to Indiana 66-58 in the Big Ten Tournament.
The Panthers are making a trip to a post-season tournament for the ninth time in the last 10 seasons. UNI was awarded the MVC automatic bid into the tournament after Missouri State and Drake were awarded trips to the NCAA Tournament.
The Panthers previously made WNIT appearances in 2018, 2016, 2015, 2013, 2006, 2003 and 2001. UNI has a 3-7 record all-time in the competition.
The last meeting between the Panthers and Gophers was a 73-55 Minnesota win in 2014 in Cedar Falls.
