Reynolds Names First Minority to Iowa Supreme Court

Governor Kim Reynolds late this(Wed) morning announced her appointment of Iowa Court of Appeals Judge Christopher McDonald to the State Supreme Court.

McDonald, who lives in Des Moines and also served as a district judge in the 5th District before he was named to the Appellate Court, thanked many people for his success, including several close friends and mentors.

McDonald, who received his undergraduate degree from Grand View University and his law degree from the University of Iowa, says he’s aware that his appointment as a minority is a first.  He was born in Thailand, to a Vietnamese mother and a Scottish/Irish father.

District Judge Kellyann Lekar of Waterloo had been in the running for the appointment.
