Waterloo Council to Begin Budget Talks, Finalize Storm-Water Fee Hikes

The Waterloo City Council will kick off a series of meetings today(Mon) with a 3:55 work session on three proposed budgets – the Library…the Cultural & Arts Department…and the Information Services (or MIS) Department.

During the regular meeting at 5:30, the council will be asked to take a third-and-final vote on raising the city’s storm-water fee from $2.75 a month to $4, with 25-cent-per-year increases for the five years after that.   The additional funds would help pay for an estimated $30-million in major drainage projects, with an eye toward preventing flooding.

Up for a second reading tonight(Mon) are two fireworks ordinances, one of which would legalize their use for three days-a-year, July 3rd, 4th and 5th…and a second ordinance which limits where they could be sold.
