The UNI Panther women’s basketball team came back from the Hoosier state with a pair of weekend road wins, boosting their Missouri Valley Conference record to 5-2.
Friday, UNI didn’t allow a made field goal until 8:02 left in the second quarter while building a 24-1 lead on the way to a 74-46 victory over Evansville. By halftime, the Panthers were up 37-17.
Abby Gerrits came off of the bench to score a game-high 11 points. Ten UNI plays saw 10 or more minutes on the court. The Panthers gave up a season-low eight turnovers.
The Panther offense kept rolling on Sunday, hitting 54 percent of field goal tries in a 71-51 triumph against Indiana State.
It was a 11-point lead at intermission, and UNI led 48-38 after three closing with a 12-2 run over the final four minutes of the game for the 20-point win.
Taylor Hagen scored a team-high 18 points, Karli Rucker added 14, and Mikaela Morgan added 13.
The Panthers are home for games against Southern Illinois Friday at 7 p.m. and Missouri State next Sunday at 2 p.m.
