The Panther men’s basketball team split games against a pair of opponents from Indiana, protecting the McLeod Center court before falling on the road.
Wednesday’s matchup was against Indiana State, and UNI scored a 69-64 win.
The Panthers led by as many as 12 points in the opening half, driven to the advantage by Spencer Haldeman’s 14 points in the opening frame. However, the lead was down to one by halftime.
After a back-and-forth start to the second, UNI closed out the Sycamores by recording 35 second half points.
Haldeman finished with a team-high 21, going 4 of 8 from beyond the three-point arc.
Tywhon Pickford added 12 points, making all 10 of his free throw attempts.
Flying to the Hoosier State, UNI could not bring back a similar outcome on Saturday.
The Valparaiso Crusaders powered past the Panthers for a 75-66 win.
It was a six-point game at halftime, but the Panthers were unable to put together runs to start the second half and trailed by double digits just minutes after the break.
Valpo was the better team inside, outscoring UNI 34-14 from the paint. Valpo center Derrik Smits had 21.
UNI freshman AJ Green ended the night with a game-high 25 points.
The Panthers are now 3-3 in the MVC. UNI remains on the road for a Wednesday game against Southern Illinois before hosting Evansville.
