The Panther women’s basketball team rolled to a pair of double-digit home wins over the weekend, topping Valparaiso and Loyola.
Friday’s 19-point win against the Crusaders was much closer at halftime before UNI flipped a three-point intermission deficit with a big second half.
The Panthers used a 21-0 third-quarter run to pick up the 71-52 win. Six Panthers contributed during the decisive third quarter stretch, as UNI went 9-12 from the field. They forced Valpo into nine turnovers and eight missed shots.
Three Panthers scored in double figures, led by Mikaela Morgan’s 15 points. Karlie Rucker was 3-4 from the three-point arc for 14 points, and Kam Finley finished with 10, her second game in a row in double figures.
Sunday’s win against the Ramblers did not require the same type of second half recovery.
Rucker scored the first seven points of the game en route to a 23-point performance to lead UNI to a 64-52 win over Loyola.
The Panthers started the game with a 9-0 run and led 22-12 after the first quarter. Although it was back to a six-point game at the half, the Panthers started the third quarter with another 9-0 run to build a 41-26 lead before Loyola began to chip away.
Rucker added ten rebounds for a double-double. Morgan scored 13 points on 5-5 shooting from the field.
The win moves UNI to 3-1 in MVC play and 10-6 overall. Next, the Panthers face Drake on Friday, January 18th at the McLeod Center.
