Less than 24 hours after the UNI Panther men’s basketball team fell to Iowa by 23 points in Des Moines, the Panther women’s squad didn’t fare any better in Iowa City.
The Hawkeyes’ Megan Gustafson delivered a double-double with 28 points and 12 rebounds in Iowa’s 83-57 victory over UNI Sunday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The Panthers built a 12-7 lead to start the game before the Hawkeyes closed the first quarter on a 9-0 run. UNI battled back in the second period, retaking the lead with a 22-18 advantage, but Iowa closed the half by scoring 17 of the last 19 points before intermission.
Karli Rucker led the way for UNI with 16 points and four rebounds. Freshman Cynthia Wolf notched a career-high 11 points on 4-6 shooting from the field, including three three-pointers.
UNI returns home for two games at the McLeod Center before Christmas starting with a matchup versus Minnesota State on Wednesday.
