The South Dakota State Jackrabbits ran to a big lead early in the opening half, and the UNI Panther men’s basketball team couldn’t overcome the setback Saturday, falling 82-50 during the U.S. Bank Stadium Basketball Classic.
Mike Daum led SDSU with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Trae Berhow was the high-scorer and top rebounder for UNI with 19 and seven respectively.
A sizable SDSU 18-2 run was accomplished in just over seven minutes, giving the Jackrabbits a 17-point lead shortly past the middle of the half. UNI pulled to within nine, but the deficit was back to 15 by intermission.
Eight- and 11-point runs in the second half helped to seal UNI’s fate. A cold shooting UNI night (18 of 58 from the field) was magnified by the Panthers being limited to just seven free throw tries.
The Panthers now have a week to prepare for their next game versus the University of Dubuque next Saturday.
