The UNI Panther volleyball team’s prospects of reaching the second round of the NCAA tournament look grim after two sets on Thursday night. Nonetheless, UNI came within two points of surviving their first round matchup against the Pepperdine Waves, before ultimately falling on a neutral court in Madison, Wisconsin.
The Waves came out on top in the five-set match, 25-22, 25-21, 19-25, 20-25, 15-13.
After UNI led for long stretches in the first set, Pepperdine slipped away with the edge. Then in set two, the Waves finished with a decisive 6-2 run
The Panthers were able to capture both the third and fourth sets, leading much of the way. During the final frame, the teams were tied at 10-10 before Pepperdine prevailed.
UNI junior Karlie Taylor finished with 23 kills, 13 digs, and four solo blocks. Jaydlin Seehase and Piper Thomas each had efficient nights with 13 kills apiece.
The loss brought UNI’s campaign to an end with a 24-10 record.
