VB: Panther Check-Off Championship Goal

A Friday loss couldn’t keep the UNI Panther women’s volleyball team from claiming a share of the Missouri Valley Conference regular season title on Saturday.

The Panthers’ weekend opened with the team’s second MVC loss of the year, coming on the road against the Evansville Purple Aces in five sets, 22-25, 25-23, 27-25, 22-25, 9-15.

Karlie Taylor ended the night with 34 kills and 23 digs.

However, UNI remained in a tie for the conference lead thanks to Bradley’s three-set win in Peoria over co-leader Illinois State

Bouncing back the next night, the Panthers finished the regular season with a championship celebration, defeating the Sycamores of Indiana State 3-0. The sweep of the Sycamores left the Panthers with a 16-2 conference record and secured the No. 1 seed in the MVC Tournament.

The Panthers saw three strong performances by Taylor, Piper Thomas, Jaydlin Seehase, all finishing in double digit kills and hitting percentages over .300.

The Panthers now prepare for the MVC Tournament, which begins on Thursday. With the No. 1 seed locked up, the Panthers will have a first-round bye and begin play the following night.
