Three Missouri Valley Football Conference teams earned bids into the FCS playoffs, including the UNI Panthers. UNI joined North Dakota State and South Dakota State among programs still with national title aspirations.
The Panthers host Lamar in the first round at the UNI-Dome Saturday at 4 p.m.
UNI closed out the regular season with a 6-5 record and a crucial 37-0 win over Missouri State on Saturday.
Defense earned UNI’s third shutout of the season. The Panthers forced a fumble and recovered the ball on the first Bears play from scrimmage.
All told, the Panther defense forced three turnovers while UNI special teams grabbed another which led to 20 points. Missouri State was held to just nine first downs and just 222 yards of total offense.
On the offensive side , Eli Dunne was 23-44 for 227 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Marcus Weymiller had 91 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns to lead the UNI rushing attack.
Now, Lamar visits for the playoff matchup representing the Southland conference; the Cardinals are 7-4 on the season and 6-3 in conference. The winner this Saturday will meet UC-Davis.
