A 52-year old Waterloo man suffered serious head injuries early last(Weds) night, when he was struck by a vehicle in the 600 block of West 9th Street. Authorities say Roderick Ward was in the roadway.
Waterloo Fire-Rescue paramedics took him to a local hospital, but Ward was later flown to the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City for further treatment. His condition is not known.
Waterloo police say the driver of the vehicle, Richard Valente of Cedar Falls, was northbound on 9th when he hit Ward. It was dark out and Valente circled back to see what he had struck.
Authorities say it does not appear that the driver was at-fault.
