The stingy UNI Panther defense suffered a hiccup Sunday, allowing a season-high four goals to the Loyola Ramblers in the Missouri Valley Conference opener for both teams.
Loyola prevailed 4-2 during the match at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex. The Ramblers had also been the last MVC team to top UNI at home, during the 2016 conference tournament.
Jenna Szczesny and Madison Kimball each scored twice for Loyola, and it was the latter striking on a spot kick in the 20th minute to open the scoring.
UNI’s Kelsey Yarrow leveled the match in the 29th minute on a long shot out of the reach of keeper Kate Moran. However, Kimball’s two goals before halftime put the visitors ahead permanently; the first of them came almost exactly three minutes after Yarrow’s marker.
A sliding Szczesny added another in the 54th minute before Brynell Yount registered her first of the season with 15 minutes to play.
The 4-4-2 Panthers seek their first conference win Saturday versus Missouri State.
