For some games, college football coaches might spend days watching video of their opponents.
That’s not what Mark Farley has been doing in preparation for Saturday’s UNI Panther opener when UNI meets the Montana Grizzlies on the road. The Grizzlies have made a lot of changes under new head coach Bobby Hauck, so last year’s tape wouldn’t be very helpful for Farley.
He talks about what will be important instead: “A big key to this game will probably be how well we adapt, particularly in the first quarter, to see what they’re going to do and try to dissect their plan a little bit so we can get people in right place.”
It will not be the first time Hauck has been on the field for a Montana game. He was rehired in November after coaching the Grizzlies from 2003-2009. He returns to the program after being the Associate Head Coach at San Diego State from 2015 to 2017.
The UNI/Montana matchup is one of eight games this season to be played between programs from the Missouri Valley Football Conference and Big Sky Conference, kicking off the second year of the official challenge series between the two leagues.
The Panthers have never beaten the Grizzlies in six tries.
Pregame coverage of UNI and Montana begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening.
