Panther VB Faces High Degree of Difficulty

The non-conference schedule looks grueling again this year for the UNI Panther volleyball team.

That seemed to be confirmed on Wednesday with the release of the American Volleyball Coaches Association preseason poll.

Bobbi Petersen’s team is scheduled to play six matches against teams which start 2018 as part of the Top 25. The Panthers open the schedule with one of two matches against 13th-ranked Creighton on August 24th. UNI will also meet USC (#10), Illinois (#12), and Iowa State (#21) during the early weeks.

The highest-ranked opponent on the Panther schedule is #5 Kentucky on August 25th.

Last season, the Panthers were 27-9, with a 13-6 mark in non-conference play. The Panthers 2017 results included wins against USC and Iowa State. UNI fell to Kentucky and Creighton last year.

The Panthers’ lone home match versus a currently ranked opponent is against the Cyclones on August 29th in the McLeod Center.

News/Talk 1540 KXEL’s first volleyball broadcasts this season are part of double-header coverage on August 25th. The Panthers meet the Trojans of USC, with prematch coverage at 1:15, then collide with the Kentucky Wildcats at 4:45.
